Peter McKinnon: “72 Hour Film Challenge” Winners

What makes a good short movie? Peter McKinnon‘s 72 Hour Film Challenge highlights the top three winners.

3rd Place: The Beginning, Jordyn Dunseath (2:30) – Inspirational
2nd Place: Try Again, Daniel Schmidt (8:15) – Funny
1st Place: Rendez Vous, Étienne Millet (11:50) – Documentary

Congratulations to the winners. I loved “Try Again.”

On a side note, could you read (in the 1st place winner video) what was written on that subway wall?

“LA LOI N’A LE DROIT DE DÉFENDRE QUE CE QUI EST NUISIBLE À LA SOCIÉTÉ ET TOUT CE QUI N’EST PAS DÉFENDU PAR LA LOI NE PEUT ÊTRE EMPÊCHÉ, ET NUL NE PEUT ÊTRE CONTRAINT À FAIRE CE QU’ELLE N’ORDONNE PAS.”

Translation: “THE LAW HAS THE RIGHT TO DEFEND ONLY WHAT IS HARMFUL TO SOCIETY AND ANYTHING THAT IS NOT PROHIBITED BY THE LAW CANNOT BE DISALLOWED, AND NO ONE CAN BE COMPELED TO DO WHAT THE LAW DOES NOT REQUIRE.”

But I think this quote (paraphrased from Huey P. Newton) is better: “Laws are created to serve us, and not we to serve laws.”

“Laws should be made to serve the people. People should not be made to serve the laws.”
― Huey P. Newton, To Die for the People: The Writings of Huey P. Newton
