Photographing Fire

Thought I’d give it a try and photograph the flames as I waited for the BBQ to heat up.

[You can see yours truly’s feet reflected on the shiny surface. Very amateurish.]

As you can see, photographing fire or flames is not a big deal. This is a straight point-and-shoot moment. Nothing special as far as the exposure is concerned. It was a windy day and the flames jumped all over the place, so I focused on the BBQ itself [difficult to focus on a moving flame]. Maybe the one special mode I used worth mentioning is Continuous Shooting at 7fps [because I wanted to catch the separate arm hanging off by itself]. Multi-Pattern metering did a pretty good job of exposing for the flame as well as surrounding objects properly.

Summer is a great time to practice with the BBQ.

Caution: be careful not to get singed [or get your lens singed] if the flames are jumping wildly about.

I also shot some cool slow motion (240fps) footage of the fire but seem to have lost it in the download??? 🙁
