Professional Photographers of America Offers Copyright Kit To All
Photography Association aims to raise awareness on copyright infringement for the industry.
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) August 23, 2013
In its latest effort to boost the photography industry as a whole, Professional Photographers of America (PPA) is offering a free-to-all copyright kit. PPA is making this resource available to raise awareness on copyright infringement and equip photographers with the knowledge and tools to better defend/protect themselves.
“We want to be sure that not only our members, but photographers everywhere and even consumers of images understand the copyright laws,” said Maria Matthews, manager of PPA’s copyright and government affairs department. “There’s a common misperception about image ownership, and the copyright kit will help everyone avoid venturing into illegal territory.
“Whether you’re a photographer that needs to brush-up on his rights, a victim of copyright infringement, or a potential image consumer, PPA is more than happy to assist anyone in understanding copyright law.”
Copyright describes the rights given to creators for their literary and artistic works. Under the Federal Copyright Act of 1976, photographs are protected by copyright from the moment of creation. But we often don’t consider copyright when we look at our family photos, or go to get them copied. Even though it is so easy to copy an image—with scanners, photo-quality printers, and copy stations—it is still illegal.
PPA’s copyright kit outlines this and more, including advice for photographers on how to copyright their images and copyright ownership, as well as further information for retailers and consumers.
The kit barely scrapes the surface of PPA’s copyright resources, which are available to all PPA members. These include copyright registration guides and sample licenses and model releases. All of these resources are supported by the only full-time copyright and government affairs department in the entire photographic association world.
PPA’s free copyright kit is available for download at ppa.com/freecopyrightkit. To learn more about how this photography association helps more than 26,000 photographers be more, visit ppa.com.
