Fujifilm GFX100S Medium-Format Mirrorless Camera Offers 102MP in a Size Similar to a Full-Frame ILC

It is an interesting strategy: Refuse to make a full-frame mirrorless camera, and instead shrink its medium-format mirrorless camera to about the same size as some full-frame interchangeable lens cameras, but offering a 102MP 1.7 times larger than full-frame image sensor, thus promising “incredibly shallow depth of field, fantastic dynamic range, faithful color reproduction, and outstanding, high-ISO performance.

Lest you think that the GFX100S is the baby of some other camera, Fujifilm unequivocally states that the “GFX100S is more advanced than any GFX System camera to date and combines the best of Fujifilm’s imaging technology.” The specs are very good for a medium-format camera: up to 6-stops of 5-axis in-body image stabilization (IBIS), fast and accurate autofocus (focus acquisition in as little as 0.16 seconds even in luminance levels as low as -5.5EV), improved Tracking AF and Face/Eye AF, weather-proof (dust- and moisture-resistant, and operates in temperatures as low as -10°C / 14°F), tilt touch 3.2 in. 2.36M-dot monitor that can be tilted 90° up, 45° down, and 60° right.

It is interesting that Fujifilm targets the GFX100S not only to photographers who desire to capture incredibly detailed images, but also to film makers who want to record broadcast-quality videos. It records 4K/30p video in 10-bit F-Log or 12-bit Apple ProRes RAW.
