Mississauga, ON, February 3, 2009 – Nikon Canada today introduced eight new COOLPIX cameras to its popular line-up of compact digital cameras. These include one Performance (P) Series camera; four Style (S) Series cameras; and three Life (L) Series cameras.

Combining design with advanced features and functionality, the latest COOLPIX models are stylish, easy-to-use and continue to offer the quality and high performance for which Nikon is known, said Gregory Flasch, Nikon Canada’s Manager of Advertising and Communications. Consumers want a digital camera that reflects their individuality. They look at components such as what technology the camera offers, how it looks, how it feels and most importantly the quality of images the camera produces. The eight new COOLPIX cameras incorporate Nikons world-class NIKKOR lenses that deliver extremely accurate detail and brilliant colour, as well as Nikons EXPEED™ advanced digital image processing system technologies, which ensures high-quality pictures with remarkable colour and sharpness. ISO 6400 capability provides extended shooting range

Sensitivity of up to ISO 6400 can be set using manual control. Auto control is available for settings between ISO 64 through ISO 800. High ISO Sensitivity Auto (ISO 64-1600) can be used to have the camera analyze the brightness of the scene and automatically select the optimum ISO setting. Fixed range auto allows sensitivity to be limited between a range from ISO 64 to 100, 200 or 400.

The newly developed 3-inch touch control LCD features intuitive fingertip shooting control and a variety of exciting playback options.

Advanced shooting features include the ability to lock autofocus and exposure on a subject by simply touching the subjects face on the screen. Smile Mode helps to faithfully record precious moments by automatically releasing the shutter when the subject smiles. Blink Warning displays an alert when it suspects that a subject has blinked. Now featuring faster processing speed, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically corrects any perceived red-eye effect before saving the image to memory.

A trio of advanced image stabilizing features helps ensure sharper results
Motion Detection automatically controls shutter speed and the ISO setting to compensate for subject movement as well as camera shake. ISO 1600 capability allows faster shutter speeds when shooting in low-light conditions or capturing fast-moving subjects.
