Panasonic Announces DMC-GX7 With Tiltable Viewfinder And In-Camera Image Stabilization

LUMIX DMC-GX7: THE ULTIMATE DSLM CAMERA

IN A PREMIUM FLAT BODY

Packing a Host of Creative Functions for Photography Enthusiasts

MISSISSAUGA, ON (August 1, 2013) – Panasonic Canada Inc. is pleased to announce a new addition to the LUMIX G Digital Single Lens Mirrorless (DSLM) Camera line-up. The LUMIX DMC-GX7 features exceptional photographic performance along with a sleek design and a tiltable LVF (Live View Finder).

Panasonic’s newly developed 16.00-megapixel Digital Live MOS Sensor for the DMC-GX7 achieves both higher resolution and higher sensitivity image recording with less noise thanks to the cutting-edge Semiconductor Fine Technology. Colour saturation is improved by approximately 10 per cent and the redesigned on-tip lens enhances light condensation to achieve approximately 10 per cent higher sensitivity. In addition, noise generation is minimized in both pixel circuit and digital signal readout circuit for better S/N ratio by approximately 25 per cent. This makes it possible to capture clear images even in low light situations. The Venus Engine image processor features advanced noise reduction systems with Multi-process NR (Noise Reduction) and Detail Reproduction Filter Process that enhances the limit resolution. The combination of the digital Live MOS Sensor and the Venus Engine achieves approx.10 per cent finer detail reproduction, making it possible to capture clear images even in low light situations and allows a maximum ISO 25600.

The Contrast AF System of the DMC-GX7 excels in both speed and accuracy by exchanging the digital signal between the camera and the lens at maximum 240 fps. A variety of extensive AF functions including Low Light AF (-4EV), Pin-point AF and One-shot AF enhances usability to comply with wide-ranging shooting situations. In Pinpoint AF, picture-in-picture display is available and the magnification ratio of in-frame picture is selectable from 3x to 6x seamlessly. The One Shot AF function can be allocated to the AF/AE Lock Button (AF/MF Switch Lever) for more flexible control over focusing.

The DMC-GX7 incorporates high speed response, taking only approximately 0.5 sec1 to shoot after startup. The DMC-GX7 also features high speed burst shooting at 5 fps and maximum 40 fps using an electronic shutter. Also, AF Tracking enables consecutive shooting to capture moving subjects in sharp focus at 4.3 fps.

The DMC-GX7 newly integrates a 90-degree tiltable LVF (Live View Finder) with 2764K-dot high resolution and 100 per cent colour reproduction2 for the first time in DSLM (Digital Single Lens Mirrorless) cameras3. The 16:9 Wide Screen LVF boasts approx.1.39x / 0.7x (35mm camera equivalent) magnification and 100 per cent field of view. The tiltable LVF offers an extraordinary angle of view with unique shooting style – looking down into the viewfinder to level the camera straight on the subject. The LVF Eye Sensor senses the presence of an eye and switches the image output from the LCD screen to the eye piece. The Eye Sensor AF starts auto focusing by just looking into the LVF, saving valuable time so as not to miss that important shot. The DMW-EC1GU Eye Cup made of elastic material is sold separately to enhance comfort in viewing with or without eyeglasses. The 3.0-inch large 1040K-dot touch-control rear monitor adopting In Cell Touch LCD also tilts up and down.

Furthermore, the DMC-GX7 allows photographers to use a maximum 1/8000 fast shutter speed for more impressive expression with a high speed lens. The in-body Image Stabilizer (as effective as the MEGA O.I.S. in conventional DSLM lenses) is built into the camera body, providing the flexibility to use non image-stabilized lenses. The DMC-GX7 is also compatible with Focus Peaking for more precise control of focusing. In Silent Mode, the camera switches the shutter from mechanical to electronic and turns all sound (AF, operation) off while suppressing emission of the AF assist lamp and flash with just a single setting for special shooting occasions.

Two separate dials on the front and back of the camera offer direct control over aperture, shutter speed and exposure, allowing users to achieve smooth manual shooting. The Live View function is also advanced digitally making it possible to adjust highlight / shadow separately with the front / rear dial. Three patterns of settings can be customized in addition to three patterns of preset. In addition, the Fn (Function) tab is newly integrated in the menu, which means a total of nine functions can be assigned (five in tab and four with button).

The DMC-GX7 is capable of recording Full HD 1920 x 1080, 60p (60 Hz) smooth, high quality video recording in AVCHD Progressive and MP4 with stereo sound. The practical full-time AF and tracking AF are also available in video recording. The cinema-like 24p video with a bit rate of maximum 24 Mbps or P/A/S/M mode, provides richly expressive afterimages with overwhelming image quality. The motion picture quality is greatly improved thanks to the new Digital Live MOS Sensor.

The DMC-GX7 incorporates Creative Panorama, Time Lapse Shot, Stop Motion Animation and Clear Retouch in addition to the popular Creative Control mode with a total of 22 creative filter effects.

The DMC-GX7 integrates Wi-Fi® connectivity (IEEE 802.11 b/g/n) with a NFC (Near Field Communication) technology camera to offer instant image sharing with easy operation. All these flexible shooting / browsing / sharing style are made possible with the DMC-GX7 and Panasonic’s dedicated application software, Panasonic Image App for iOS / Android smartphones / tablets.

Housed in a magnesium alloy full diecast frame in black or silver, the DMC-GX7 is a high quality camera long awaited by enthusiastic photographers.

The DMC-GX7 will be available in early fall and will be available in black and silver. The following kits will be available; DMC-GX7 Body only ($1099 MSP), DMC-GX7 with 14-42mm Zoom lens ($1199 MSP), and DMC-GX7 with 20mm F1.7 pancake lens ($1299 MSP).
