Panasonic: Leica DG 100-400 mm (200-800 mm) f/4.0-6.3 Super Telephoto Lens and Lumix G 25 mm f/1.7 Lens Being Developed for Micro Four Thirds System

LEICA DG 100-400mm / F4.0-6.3 telephoto zoom lens

LEICA DG 100-400mm / F4.0-6.3 telephoto zoom lens

One news that should get many photographers excited is the development of the first and much anticipated Leica super telephoto zoom lens for the Micro Four Thirds (MFT) system. With a 35mm equivalent of 200-800 mm, the LEICA DG 100-400mm / F4.0-6.3 telephoto zoom lens will be the longest telephoto in the Panasonic lens line-up and it makes wildlife and sports action shooting now possible with a MFT mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera. Will the availability of this lens (and hopefully of more high quality long zoom lenses to come) tempt current DSLR professional photographers to finally ditch their bulky and heavy DSLRs and lenses and switch to Panasonic’s (and Olympus’) more compact and lighter mirrorless MFT alternatives? Available spring 2016. Pricing is not yet available.

Lumix G 25mm F1.7 ASPH

Another lens being developed is the Lumix G 25mm Single Focal Length Lens with F1.7 ASPH. This lens is a 50mm (35 mm camera equivalent) single focal length lens with a large diameter. The 50mm focus distance offers almost the same viewing angle and sense of perspective of human eyes which means users can enjoy shooting a portrait or scenery as they see. The new lens also supports high speed digital signal exchange at 240 fps to comply with the high-speed, high-precision AF (Auto Focus) with DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology on the LUMIX G cameras. Available October with final pricing to be announced.

PANASONIC ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT OF FIRST LEICA TELEPHOTO ZOOM LENS FOR MICRO FOUR THIRDS SYSTEM

The First LEICA DG Zoom Lens in the Lineup1

MISSISSAUGA, ON (July 16, 2015) – Panasonic Canada is pleased to announce that the company is developing the first LEICA DG 100-400mm / F4.0-6.3 telephoto zoom lens (35mm camera equivalent: 200-800mm) for the Micro Four Thirds system.

LEICA DG lenses are designed and developed in keeping with the stringent quality certification standards set by Leica. Four single focal length LEICA DG lenses have already been introduced to the market and have received worldwide acclaim2.

The new telephoto zoom achieves exceptional imaging performance over the entire zoom range. It features high speed digital signal exchange at 240 fps to comply with the high-speed, high-precision AF (Auto Focus) with DFD (Depth From Defocus) technology on the LUMIX G camera. Together with the POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer), the lens allows users to focus on a target quickly to capture crisp, clear images. In addition, the new lens is highly versatile due to its splash/dust-proof rugged design which helps protect it during heavy field use.

The new telephoto zoom lens is well-proportioned in size and weight, which is a common advantage of all LUMIX G DSLM cameras, enabling handheld 800mm (35mm camera equivalent) telephoto shooting without using a tripod.

Panasonic is committed to the continued expansion of its digital interchangeable lens lineup with the addition of this new LEICA telephoto zoom lens to meet the wider-ranging needs of customers.
