Samyang Announces 20mm F1.8 Photo Lens & 20mm T1.9 Cine Lens for Full-frame DSLR Cameras

This is Week 4 of Samyang‘s 5-week 2016 Summer Blockbusters, where they announce a new lens each Monday. So far, they have announced the 1) XEEN 135mm T2.2 Professional 4K+ Video-Cinema Lens; 2)the AF 50/1.4 FE (Samyang AF 50/1.4 FE); and 3) the 35mm F1.2 Photo & Cine Lens. And this Monday, it is the turn for 4) the 20mm F1.8 photo lens (Samyang 20mm F1.8 ED AS UMC) for stills photography and the equivalent 20mm T1.9 cine lens (Samyang 20mm T1.9 ED AS UMC) for video.

These are both manual focus lenses specifically designed for Full-frame DSLR cameras with Full-frame sensor size. However, they will also be available in APS-C, Four Thirds and Micro Four Thirds mounts (with reduced angles of view), 10 mounts in all: Canon EOS, Nikon AE, Pentax K, Sony α, Canon M, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Sony E, FT, and MFT.

The bright F1.8 aperture in the photo lens (equivalent of T1.9 in the cine lens) makes it a good choice for shooting under various lighting conditions. The Samyang 20mm T1.9 is a cine lens optimally designed for professional follow focus system, thanks to the quiet and smooth de-clicked focus and aperture gear rings. Also, the distance scale and T numbers are marked on both sides of the lens for convenience when filming.

The lenses feature 13 glasses in 12 groups, with two aspherical lenses and three extra-low dispersion lenses to minimize aberration and unnecessary light dispersion, delivering high resolution from centre to corners of the image. The 20mm focal length is perfect for shooting concerts, interior photos and street snaps.

Each lens accept 77mm diameter filters. Minimum focusing distance is 0.2m.
