Samsung Established New Organizations That Target & Pursue New Business Initiatives Including Automotive Infotainment, Autonomous Driving Vehicles and Wearables & Mobile-Related Accessories

Samsung Electronics announced its annual structural reorganization to pre-emptively respond to business uncertainties while maintaining its three business divisions namely IM (IT & Mobile Communications), CE (Consumer Electronics), and DS (Device Solutions).

SAMSUNG and SEAT have signed an agreement to develop technological solutions to provide total connectivity across SEAT’s range of models. The agreement will take shape in the coming months with the launch of a new SEAT model line-up equipped to keep the customer always connected, with new technological features to be extended gradually to the rest of the SEAT range.

Other agreement provisions enable SAMSUNG to supply SEAT with the basic software to develop its own car apps, to be managed from SAMSUNG handsets.

These vehicles will be equipped with MirrorLink technology and the car Infotainment system linking them to SAMSUNG devices through the apps developed by SEAT. MirrorLink is SEAT’s answer to connectivity between the car and the smart device. Smartphone content is mirrored in the vehicle display in a safe way, with no distraction for the driver, who is afforded access to apps while keeping both eyes on the road.

The devices, the apps and the car infotainment system are the main elements of the MirrorLink based connectivity. Wearables can be added supporting further functions. This agreement with SAMSUNG covers all 75 markets on which SEAT vehicles are sold.

According to Rick Segal, Vice-President of Enterprise Business Team, IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, “SAMSUNG is delighted to be announcing this agreement at the Mobile World Congress, particularly in Barcelona – SEAT’s home town. The idea behind the agreement is to work together, joining the know-how of both brands, to develop on board safe technological solutions which simplify our customers’ lives. The aim is to keep consumers always connected. We are expecting great things from this agreement with SEAT.”

In the words of Jürgen Stackmann, SEAT Executive Committee Chairman, “In 2015 we fully entered the Internet of Things, with 6 billion things now connected to Internet. Samsung Electronics Announces Annual Reorganization for 2016

Samsung Electronics announced its annual structural reorganization to pre-emptively respond to business uncertainties while maintaining its three business divisions namely IM (IT & Mobile Communications), CE (Consumer Electronics), and DS (Device Solutions).

The company newly appointed the Head of the Digital Appliances Business and heads of the Mobile R&D Office for the Mobile Communications Business.

Samsung established new organizations that target and pursue new business initiatives to prepare for future growth.

The company established an automotive components team, which will initially focus on building its competencies in infotainment and autonomous driving vehicles. The operation will be headed by Executive Vice President Jonghwan Park and overseen by Vice Chairman & CEO Oh-Hyun Kwon.

In addition, the Visual Display Business established an AV business team, and the Mobile Communications Business established Mobile Enhancing team focusing on wearables and mobile-related accessories.

In response to the growth of online channel sales, the company is establishing online operations teams in Korea and Southwest Asia. It will also create dedicated online organizations within key business units.

In addition, the company strengthened its product planning and R&D organizations with a focus on emerging markets. A product strategy center was established in China with the aim of creating an end-to-end product planning and R&D platform for locally developed products. The company will also expand its local product planning and R&D functions in India.

Along with the structural reorganization, Samsung made new executive appointments.

The Device Solutions Division plans to prepare for rapidly changing market conditions in the semiconductor industry by focusing on streamlining internal operations and increasing productivity while seizing new business opportunities.
