San Diego’s Electrifying Blue Waves

When night falls on the San Diego County coastline, a spectacular neon blue light show starts. The electric blue glow is caused by an algae bloom, phytoplankton, commonly referred to as a “red tide.” The bioluminescent waves glow a vivid blue when they crash ashore and are only visible after night falls.
