Sony α9: Firmware Update Version 3.00 (6/27/2018) Provides New Functions & Improvements; Advisory Regarding the Multi Interface Shoe – Repair at No Cost Through March 31, 2020

The full-frame image sensor in the α9 employs a stacked structure designed specifically for high speed. The combination of advanced sensor and evolved BIONZ X processing enable continuous shooting at up to 20 fps, blackout-free shooting, up to 60 AF/AE tracking calculations per second, silent vibration-free electronic shutter speeds up to 1/32000 sec., Anti-Distortion Shutter operation that minimizes distortion of moving subjects, and other capabilities that add up to unprecedented speed from a full-frame camera without interference from mechanical devices.

Sony α9 (ILCE-9) firmware update (version 3.00) provides the following benefits:

Added functions for professionals engaged in sports/news media:

  • Adds the Write Serial Number option (On/Off) to the menu for selecting your preference in writing the serial number to the Exif data

Improvements in auto focus performance and functionality:

  • Improves tracking performance of moving subjects in AF-C mode
  • Improves auto focus speed in low light
  • Adds AF Track Sens as a selectable option for custom key settings
  • Adds support for all focus areas when using LA-EA3 mount adaptor
    (Focus Area options added: Zone, Expand Flexible Spot, and Lock-on AF)

Improvements in flash control performance and functionality:

  • Reduced release time lag when shooting with flash
  • Adds support for Slow Sync and Rear Sync when using flash wirelessly
  • Adds support for white balance automatic correction when using color filter of external flash (HVL-F60RM)

Other Improvements:

  • Stabilized release time lag when shooting in AF-C mode
  • Improves overall stability of the camera

ILCE-9 Multi Interface Shoe Repair

Thank you for your interest in Sony products.

In rare cases the Multi Interface Shoe on some ILCE-9 (α9) interchangeable lens digital cameras may rattle when an optional large flash unit is attached and high pressure is applied to it.

To address this issue, subject to the terms and conditions in the Limited Warranty that accompanied the Affected Cameras, we will repair your Affected Camera, free of charge, through March 31, 2020.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Affected Cameras

ILCE-9 cameras with serial numbers between 3370001 and 3381733 may be affected.

Sony α9

The model and serial number are listed on the label on the bottom of the camera.

Resolution

If your ILCE-9 is within the affected serial number range, and is experiencing this issue, we will repair your camera free of charge until March 31, 2020. Please contact Product Support for assistance.
