The Ice Book Behind The Scenes

Compositing – The Ice Book from Davy and Kristin McGuire on Vimeo.

We’ve all seen pop-up books where when you open the pages, the scene pops up as a 3D representation of what usually is on 2D paper. The authors here have cleverly used a DSLR to film some scenes against a green screen to go with the story. Project these back onto the pop-up scenes and you suddenly have live theatre!

And here’s the final version:

Filmed on a Canon 5D Mark II, post processed on an old Macbook with Adobe After Effects.

How do they do that? You must have seen the live projections onto buildings, cars and other objects. It’s cool and creative. The duo of Davy and Kristin McGuire give us a demonstration here.
