The Making of A Leica M7

Leica M7

Here’s an interesting video of how a Leica M7 is assembled. [I was able to view it in Firefox 3.0 but not IE 8.] It’s in German with English subtitles. I never knew the Leica M7 is made in Portugal, then assembled/re-assembled in Germany; or that you need to bake it in an oven; or, glue in the leather by hand — all hail Mrs. Heimann!

Hmm, I wonder if they could do this hand assembling and testing much much cheaper in Taiwan. Watching the video tells me there’s absolutely no reason it needs to be assembled and tested in the German lab. But then a made-in-Taiwan Leica would never fly! Watch and share your thoughts.
