Let the Games begin!
The 21st Winter Olympic opened yesterday in Vancouver, Canada, with the Olympic torch rolled into the stadium by Rick Hansen (“Man In Motion”) in his wheelchair and then passed on to the four athletes who would together light the Olympic Flame: Catriona Le May Doan (two-time Olympic Gold Medallist, Five-time World Champion in Speedskating), Steve Nash (two-time NBA MVP, All-Star Basketball player), Nancy Greene (Olympic Downhill Skiing Champion), Wayne Gretzky (“The Great One”, Ice Hockey).
Unfortunately a problem with the hydraulic system meant that only 3 of the four “logs” raised from the floor and Catriona missed on this opportunity of a lifetime. Afterwards, Gretzky ran outside the stadium and was transported by vehicle to the Waterfront to light the external Olympic Cauldron.
The Ice Hockey Men’s Gold Medal game will be held on February 28 at 12:15PM PST and the Closing Ceremony at 5:30PM PST.
