Toshiba: World’s First SDHC Memory Card with NFC Lets You See on NFC-enabled Android Smartphones The 16 Thumbnails of Photos in Card

Toshiba announced the world’s first[1] SDHC (Secure Digital High-Capacity) memory card with NFC (Near Field Communication) to exchange and preview data simply with a touch.

  • By holding an NFC-enabled AndroidTM smartphone, with the app “Memory Card Preview”[3] installed, over the memory cards lets you preview the available storage space, as well as 16 thumbnails (max.) of the photos stored in the card.

Sales of the 8GB, 16GB and 32GB cards will start from February 2015.

  • The product is labeled based on the memory chip(s) it contains, not the amount of memory capacity available for data storage by the end user.
    • Part of the capacity is reserved for card functionality.
    • Minimum consumer-usable memory capacity is approximately 7.2GB for 8GB products, approximately 14.4GB for 16GB products and approximately 28.8GB for 32GB products.
  • Smartphone app “Memory Card Preview” will be available FREE of charge from Google Play™ Store at the same timing as the start of sales of the new product.

”Memory Card Preview” installed smartphones lets you see what is stored inside the card

TOKYO – Toshiba Corporation’s (TOKYO: 6502) Semiconductor & Storage Products Company today announced the launch of the world’s first[1] SDHC memory card with built-in NFC (Near Field Communication) functions. Sales of the 8GB, 16GB and 32GB[2] cards will start from February 2015. The new cards will be featured at the 2015 International CES, in Las Vegas, U.S.A., from January 6 to January 9.

In order to find out what is stored inside SD memory cards, you usually need to put them into PCs or digital cameras to find out what is stored inside. The new product utilizes the features of NFC technology to exchange data simply with a touch. By holding an NFC-enabled AndroidTM smartphone, with the app “Memory Card Preview”[3] installed, over the memory cards lets you preview the available storage space, as well as 16 thumbnails (max.) of the photos stored in the card.
