Why Is Apple Banning The Sale Of Protective Screen Film From Its Apple Stores

Why is Apple banning the sale of protective screen film from its retail and online stores? There’s been no report of the iPad and iPhone touchscreen being negatively affected by the protective film on top. Wonder if this has anything to do with the iPad’s new touchscreen?
