Women In Photography International (WIPI), the #1 resource center for women photographers worldwide is taking submissions for “FACES,” a juried online photo competition. The First Place winner will receive an Apple iPad WIFI-3G (32GB) tablet and Second Place winner, an Apple iPad WIFI (16GB) tablet. Both winners will also receive a ten image gallery presentation. Jurors Sarah Hughes, Getty Images/NY, Milton, Photographer’s Gallery /Los Angeles, and Sophie Mörner. Photographs can reflect either an artistic representation, classic professional portrait or casual face snapshots with friends or family, including pretty, grotesque, happy, sad, excited, surprised, content, suspicious, angry, puzzled, animated, upside right.. or upside down!. Famous to not so famous! In costumes, hats, veils, wearing glasses to bare chested bullies!
WIPI welcomes photographs taken with any type of film or digital camera including point and shoot cameras, toy cameras such as, Lomography, Pinhole as well as mobile cell phone images. Photographs may be scanned or manipulated using Adobe Photoshop or Corel Painter type software programs. B/W or color images including fine art, commercial portraits or snapshots will be accepted. The deadline for FACES is Saturday, August 15, 2010.

WIPI continues to honor women photographers worldwide with an online presence through competitions, galleries, feature stories and the Hire-a-WIPI Pro directory. The WIPI Distinguished Photographer’s Award was created in 1983 as a tribute to photographers of excellence and achievement. WIPI paid homage to Annie Leibovitz (2003) at the Lucie Awards inaugural presentation in Los Angeles and to Sylvia Plachy (2004), at the Lucie’s in New York City at the American Airlines Theater. WIPI founding member, photographer Carrie Mae Weems received The Distinguished Photographers award in 2005. Past recipients include: Eve Arnold (1983), Ruth Bernhard (1984), Judy Dater (1985), Marion Post Wolcott (1986), Linda McCartney (1987), Mary Ellen Mark (1988), Ruth Orkin (1989), Joyce Tenneson (1990), Berenice Abbott (1991), Grace Robertson (1992.) Completed in 2008, WIPI created a list of one hundred living Distinguished Photographers starting with emerging talent to women with at least a twenty-five year working history in photography.
