World Photography Day: What Was Your First Camera?

August 19 is World Photography Day. To those who can’t help themselves but take photos everyday, there’s World Photography Week, which started a week before today and will last one more week after today (August 12th to August 26th, 2024), where you can showcase your photography or that of other photographers you love.

There are a number of ways to participate in World Photography Day/Week:

I can’t help but reflect on my first cameras, those that introduced me to the wonder of photography. In my case, my very first camera was a cheap plastic Agfa Click-I that took black-and-white 120 roll film, and it wasn’t even mine. In fact, most of the cameras I used belonged to my older brother who had gotten bitten by the photography bug before I was, and I just kinda followed him in that path. We also had a friend of our dad who was a self-taught carpenter, artist, and avid photographer — and he was also a great influence in developing our passion for photography (that was before the Internet and social media). So go ahead and share your images on social media; you never know just who you might influence to take up photography.

What was the very first camera that you used?
