Yosemite Firefall

From panweilin

In late February, near dusk, sunlight lights up the Horsetail Fall in Yosemite National Park giving the impression lava is flowing down the granite face of El Capitan. In fact, it’s the rays of the sun reflecting off the granite behind the water that gives the red-orange color. The show unfortunately lasts for only about two minutes so photographers congregate at the El Capitan picnic area and wait for the ideal conditions. Late renowned outdoors photographer Galen Rowellin first recorded this sight in full color in 1973.
