Vickery Bowles, City Librarian of the Toronto Public Library introduces Exposed, the first exhibition of material from the Toronto Star Photograph Archive. Generously sponsored by TD Bank Group, Exposed is the latest exhibition at the library’s TD Gallery, located on the main floor of the Toronto Reference Library. The show opens Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 9 a.m. and runs until Sunday, June 14, 2015.
Toronto Public Library is showcasing a new exhibition, Exposed, featuring highlights from the Toronto Star Photograph Archive: people, places and events that defined the 20th century, at the TD Gallery, Toronto Reference Library, 789 Yonge Street – Main Level, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

- The Power of the Press Image: A Panel Discussion with Toronto Star Photographers
- Award-winning photographers from the Toronto Star discuss some of the paper’s iconic images, what makes a powerful press image, and how the Toronto Star’s approach to photojournalism has changed over time.
- Photographer Richard Lautens moderates the discussion with panelists Tony Bock, Rick Madonik, Steve Russelland Boris Spremo, Order of Canada.

Toronto Public Library is pleased to announce a new exhibition, Exposed, featuring highlights from the Toronto Star Photograph Archive: people, places and events that defined the 20th century.
A snapshot of the Toronto Star Photograph Archive, Exposed presents some of the memorable images that graced the pages of Canada’s largest daily newspaper. Powerful and provocative, these photographs were the lens through which Toronto Star readers witnessed the defining moments of the 20th century.
Generously sponsored by TD Bank Group, Exposed is the latest exhibition at the library’s TD Gallery, located on the main floor of the Toronto Reference Library. The show opens Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 9 a.m. and runs until Sunday, June 14, 2015.

This is the first exhibition at the TD Gallery that showcases some of the over one million photographs that make up the Toronto Star Photograph Archive. The entire archive was donated to the Toronto Public Library in 2014 and is available to all in the Marilyn & Charles Baillie Special Collections Centre on the 5th floor of the Toronto Reference Library.
Exhibition Highlights:
- Original prints of several National Newspaper Award-winning photographs and other award-winning work by Toronto Star photographers, including Boris Spremo, Order of Canada.
- Portraits and landscape photographs by internationally renowned photographers like Yousuf Karsh, Philippe Halsman, Ansel Adams, and Cecil Beaton.
- The very first wire photos that the Toronto Star received in 1939 when it became the first Canadian newspaper to join the Associated Press wire network.
- Fascinating and often humorous examples of how photographs were altered and retouched in the days before Photoshop.
